Empowering Energy Consumers: Current and future challenges and options

09/03/2017 - 13:30 to 17:00
Le Bouche à Oreille, Rue Félix Hap 11, 1040 Brussels

The workshop will begin with a presentation of the findings of a new CERRE report ‘Empowering Electricity Consumers in Retail and Wholesale Markets’. That report provides fresh analysis on how the role of consumers in electricity markets should be developed. In particular, it looks at the issues around protected or vulnerable consumers, how Demand Side Response can be developed at a larger scale and how the vast majority of consumers – so far unengaged in the market – can be mobilised.

The report, and these broader questions, will then be explored in more detail during a panel discussion with representatives from all corners of the energy sector, including among other regulators, policy-makers and academic experts.

Following this, building on the CERRE report, on the presence of a cross-section of the industry and on the workshop setting, concrete options as to how consumer engagement/empowerment could develop will be explored.  What are the practical issues that must be overcome, what are the wider questions that must be addressed, to move consumer engagement/empowerment forward?

All participants will be invited to join in these discussions, which will help share CERRE’s research agenda.

This event is reserved for CERRE members' representatives and a limited number of non-members.
