Dr Clara Poletti

Dr Poletti is Director, International, Strategy and Planning at the Autorità per l’energia elettrica e il gas, the Italian regulatory authority for electricity and gas. From April 2010 to November 2011, she was a Joint Academic Director of CERRE. She is also a former Director of IEFE, Università Bocconi’s Center for Research on Energy and Environmental Economics and Policy (IEFE), focusing on environmental policy as well as on environmental management and sustainability. Furthermore, she is a board member of Fondazione EnergyLab.

Dr Poletti has a wide experience on wholesale markets design, incentive mechanisms and competition, mainly in the electricity sector. She joined the Italian regulatory authority for electricity and gas (Autorità per l’energia elettrica e il gas) at its very beginning, in 1997, first as an economist in the tariff division, then as the head of its Market and Competition Division. In that position, she was involved in the regulation of renewable power plants, as well as in the definition of their balancing and dispatching contracts.  She also headed the regulator’s Market Monitoring Unit (IPEXED) responsible for the monitoring of the wholesale market and of balancing markets, and also for joint enquires with the antitrust authority.
